Here’s some nice tight garden design in two yards – too big to be called courtyards, but way smaller than the suburban dream. However you can dream small and I find small gardens are less daunting than large ones and the end result is easier to visualise.
Firstly in Armidale, Victoria. This is quite a simple and clean design but there’s still a lot to do in the space. Sit on your own park bench or select the swing and gaze up at your funky shade cover – thing. There’s a patch of grass for the kids or dog. You could move the table and chairs down onto the lower paved area or keep it clear to let the kids ride their trikes.
Then journey to beachside Fairlight in Sydney.
The interesting thing about this garden is that you can watch it grow. My guess is that the flashier photos towards the end are those featured in the Good Garden Design magazine in 2010. And the first couple of images are taken in 2012 for the property advertising campaign. This sold house is listed here.
